The Lure of Landscape Photography
I am a full-time technology professional. More specifically, I am a network engineer who is responsible for the design, maintenance, and troubleshooting of an enterprise network. That is my job.
My true passion however, is landscape photography. My interest in photography began roughly in 1997, following my graduation from high school, and can be attributed to my father exposing me to a local photographer, Mark Bergsma, who had a gallery in town. In 1998, I joined the U.S. Navy, which afforded me the opportunity to visit several countries in the West Pacific.
In 2001, I bought my first camera, a Canon EOS-3. Although both my wife and I balked at the high cost, it was the start of an obsession that shows no signs of slowing down. 35mm initially seemed the logical choice, but did not allow for the ability to make large prints. Because of this, I purchased a Mamiya RZ67 ProII system in 2004. This provided a piece of film that was 6x7 centimeters, about 5 times larger than a 35mm frame.
After making prints 30x20 inches and larger, I was sold on this film format. Since 2004, I have sold prints from my temporary website. When time allows, I will create a more sophisticated website which will encompass not only my own photography, but will also serve as a location for a vast a mount of photography-related information, reviews, and discussion. For now, I am content on operating my business at a small-scale.
Cheers!
